Now,  we all know and love the big names in fashion like Dolce & Gabbana, Donna Karan, Chanel and Christian Dior.  Well, we decided to show some love to a select crew of independent fshion designers who are defintiely on the rise!   We had the opportunity to attend a fashion show in the Spring and one thing was certain.  There were plenty of talented and innovative designers that we all need to keep our eyes on.

A local high school auditorium located in Long Island, NY was recently transformed into a fashion hub where some of the industry’s hottest independent designers lit up the runway, all in the name of charity.  The Theta Iota Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated and The Ivy Foundation hosted the Forever Young 2012 Fashion Show in May,  and the event was a huge success!

An audience of over 300 spectators eagerly watched as the trendsetting designers showcased their fashionable works of art.  Nippy Lavern Fashions was on hand presenting their brand of women's clothing which has couture high fashion style and unique flair. Emigee Couture, displayed how their lifestyle custom brand captivates the chic and edge in any consumer who wears it.  Designs from       I AM HER demonstrated how their apparel uplifts, transforms and empowers women & girls of color.  The “glamorous & trendy” designs from the popular brand, Fabric Twinz also dazzled the runway.   Gemz By Design featured their collection which includes men and women’s clothing as well as their exclusive line of accessories.  Dramatik Fanatik showed off their edgy approach to fashion trends, while I AM CULTURE revealed their theme of cultural unity through their stylish showcase. The unique fashion line Confetti, which features designs by Tyresse, a Hempstead High School alumnus did not disappoint.  The fun and hip clothing line for little ones, Rockett Clothing featured pint size fashion creations, while the rich colors and bold prints from Dani Nichole Designs enhanced the radiance of the catwalk.  The exciting affair also featured special performances by the multi-talented 2012 Greatest Love Cotillion debutantes who sang, danced and entertained all in attendance.

Volunteers from the Theta Iota Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated , The Ivy Foundation and the Hempstead PTA, were on hand encouraging all those present to register to vote.  The evening came to a close with an exclusive after party immediately following the showcase where attendees mixed and mingled throughout the night.  The event, emceed by Angela Kelly, CEO of AKellyKreations,  included sponsors such as Deloitte,  Big Eye Photography,  In The MixArial Space,  Avon,  Stop N Shop & Pathmark. Proceeds raised from this event will go to benefit the organization’s ongoing effort to provide scholarships to students throughout Long Island.  For additional information about Theta Iota Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated and The Ivy Foundation, please visit www.akathetaiotaomega.com.
