Summer Jam Festival Village is gonna be liver than ever this year.  Coming to the stage, we have Compton's own Kendrick Lamar along with Schoolboy Q, A$AP Rocky, Big KRIT, Pusha-T and Fred The Godson.  Here, DJ Enuff sits down with Kendrick Lamar to discuss his excitement on finally hitting the Summer Jam stage:

On what Summer Jam means to him:

"You know when I think about when I think about 65,000.  I think about that 20 that were at my shows 3 years ago.  I’m always thinking about Summer Jam being a student in the game getting my craft right.  All my favorite artists are there.  Then, full circle come back around…I’mma be doin it too."

The biggest misconception about Kendrick Lamar:

"You know what I had a problem with at the beginning?  They tried to put me as this one particular artist.  When they say conscious artist.  You know they be asking ‘what you listen to growing up?  Was it Talib? Common?’  I listened to nothing but gangster rap when I was growing up.  They never heard someone from Compton talk about street situations and at the same time be a dreamer.  I think that’s the balance that they never heard coming from L.A."

On being down with Dr. Dre:

"Its makes me feel good that a OG that I respect all these years acknowledge my music and you know said its great.  You know I been living up to my own expectation.  And to have somebody like Schoolboy Q and J Rock around me, that’s competition all day.  You know, and that’s all I wanna be around."

Upcoming projects:

"I’m working on this album.  The Recipe.  I’m never satisfied.  I think that’s my gift and the curse in the studio.  I will keep recording and recording."

What he’s listening to right now:

"Gunplay.  Maybach Music."
