HOT 97 Summer Jam went down last night at Met Life Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ with a slew of great performances from the hottest artists in the game. Fans flooded in from Harlem, Brooklyn, Bronx, Queens, Staten Island, Newark, all of the Oranges and more to witness the incredible line-up that was set to hit the HOT 97 Summer Jam stage. Beginning with the festival village, we brought you the cream of the crop in hip hop.
With scattered showers and gray clouds looming overhead, concert goers at HOT 97 Summer Jam were weary of the sketchy weather right until the show broke. But when the first act hit the stage, all caution was thrown to the wind. Fred The Godson opened the festival village segment of the concert. He hit the crowd with his smash single "Monique's Room" and got the crowd warmed up. Next to hit the festival village stage was BIG K.R.I.T. who brought his smooth, southern style to the mic. He blessed the crowd with hits from his mixtapes "4 Eva and a Day" and "Return of 4 Eva". Up next was the quick-witted, heat-spitter that is Azealia Banks. The Harlemite made her first HOT 97 Summer Jam appearance and didn't disappoint. She rocked the stage with her hit single "212" first. Then, she went into her singles "F*** Up The Fun" and "Jumanji". Up next are the west coast's reigning rookies Kendrick Lamar and Schoolboy Q. Kendrick hit the stage and blessed the fans with his most popular singles "ADHD" and "The Recipe". Of course he brought out his fellow Black Hippie member, Schoolboy Q. Schoolboy happens to be a New York favorite. He hit the crowd with his singles "Bet I Got Some W33d" then brought out ASAP Rocky to perform "Hands on the Wheel". For Rocky, this concert was somewhat of a homecoming. The young Harlem spitter brought his family and his entire entourage with him to the festival village stage. Performing his hits "Peso", "Wassup", "Goldie" and more. The crowd was ready for the main stage. Every HOT 97 Summer Jam, we give you a sick line-up and then shock you with special guests throughout the show. With the roster already boasting the best in the game including J. Cole, Rick Ross, French Montana, Meek Mill, Wale, Maino, Tyga, Trey Songz, Wacka Flocka, Young Jeezy, 2 Chainz, Big Sean and more, it was somewhat like a party. First to bless the mic was NY native, Maino. Maino hit the ground running with "Hands in the Air" while Wacka Flocka Flame brought his head-banging street anthems "I Go Hard In The Paint" and "I'm Bustin At Em". J. Cole held it down for Roc Nation at Summer Jam 2012. It was a Cole World during his entire set. Fans swayed side to side while spitting his lyrics right back at him for "Workout", "I Need That" and more. Big Sean, Tyga, Meek Mill and Wale made their first appearances on the HOT 97 Summer Jam main stage this year bringing a fresh element to the air but the title of 'breakout artist' definitely has to go to 2 Chainz. Tity Boi had a heck of a year and earned the coveted rookie spot at Summer Jam. MMG brought the house all the way down while hitting the crowd with their hits like "Stay Schemin", "Yellow Diamonds", "House Party", "Ima Boss" and of course, Meek Mills' "Amen" off the long-awaited 'Dreamchasers II" mixtape. As if that wasn't a crazy show already, we had some sick pop-up guests that we had waiting to touch the mic. To put the icing on the cake, we had surprise appearances from MOP and Method Man but the most exciting portion of the show had to be when surprise guest, Nas hit the stage and brought out Lauryn Hill and blessed the crowd with a classic performance of "If I Ruled The World" and "Ready or Not". It was an amazing moment for all who got to witness via Live Stream and for the 55,000 concert goers that rocked out with us at Met Life Stadium. Of course there were the VIP and Platinum Lounges where our jocks and artists enjoyed candid conversation over a live broadcast throughout the entire show. Here, our listeners could get a feel for the excitement swarming around the stadium. Add to that, our 2nd ever Live Stream of HOT 97 Summer Jam flowed out to thousands of viewers, allowing them to enjoy the show from the comfort of their homes. HOT 97 Summer Jam 2012 is a wrap.
