2009 BET Hip Hop Awards Highlights

Did hip hop get the short end of the stick at the 2009 BET Hip Hop Awards?
Everyone always has something to say about BET Award shows and having experienced this one first hand on the red carpet I have to say it was better than expected but there's always room to exceed expectations.
Hip hop highlights:
Hands down the cyphers - After hearing Joe Budden, Nicki Minaj, Buckshot CrownRoyale, Krs-One, Wale, Nipsey Hussle, Gsan, Mos Def, Black Thought and Eminem I felt like a kid on a sugar high! Makes me wonder what a Black Thought/Eminem mixtape might sound like.
Gucci Mane - Clearly Gucci was the honorary Mayor of the BET Hip Hop Awards. His key to the city got him numerous guest performances.
Ice Cube - Cube receiving the "I am Hip Hop" award was truly well deserved. Ice Cube definitely was keeping it gangsta with his candid remarks about not letting video and radio programmers dictate what's hip hop.
Missy Elliot & Fatima Robinson - Representing for the ladies Missy and Fatima were honored with the "Women in Hip Hop" award. Even with Missy, Fatima and Nicki Minaj representing, the female presence in hip hop was still very much absent performance wise, no fault of BET's just a sign of the times.
Lastly you might of missed it if you blinked Goodie Mob's reunion performance at the BET Hip Hop Awards, my favorite, including a cameo by Sir Luscious Left Foot himself Big Boi.

BET's next award show airs on their newest network BET Centric. Centric will tape the long awaited return of the Soul Train Music Awards airing November 29th.
