Get popping hair color for the summer

Nicki Minaj stepped on the stage for Hot 97's Summer Jam displaying her blond tresses and she has showed us that she can rock hair color from black to pink to anything that she feels like.  While red seems to be the popping hair color for the summer we have some tips that will help you if you decide to color your do for a brand new you during the summer months.  According to hairstylist Charisse Edwards of Zacore Stylz Salon in Queens, New York, women tend to put a strain on their hair, especially during the summer.  Charisse stresses the importance of protecting your hair when getting a permanent hair color with the use of a deep penetrating conditioner every week.  If you have other chemicals in your hair, such as relaxers, then you must condition your hair during or after coloring it.  Its very important because hair gets very dry or brittle and can break easily when you chemically treat your hair.  Charisse also advises to not use bleach when possible, except if your hair is natural.  So color away ladies but don't forget to treat your hair well.   Read more...

The movement started in 2009 by creators Ashley Hicks and Toni Carey and it gives African-American women a chance to join a running group in their area led by experienced volunteer runners. There are 60 groups across the nation with over 25,000 members. From the beginner beautiful full figure ladies trying to get healthy to the more advanced runners looking to become more fit or just have fun, they provide great support to their team of sisters. “Our members tell us that they joined the BGR movement to get moving and get healthy and stay because of the positive reinforcement, support, motivation, camaraderie, and inspiration they get from the other women in the group,” says Juanne Renee Harris, one of the Lead Ambassadors of the NYC group. They have participated in races from NYC to the Caribbean to Antarctica and no woman is left behind in a race. "We're there until the end, enthusiastically cheering for our members", says Delanie West of the New Jersey area group. Currently they have a group of women training for the NYC marathon this November as well as a Black Girls Run sponsored race in North Carolina in the fall. There are groups all over the New York area including Queens and the Bronx and the NYC groups have grown from less than 200 members to now over 2300 member since 2011. The groups regularly shares info in person and through social networks about running, nutrition, women health issues, working out, family and relationships.
