Music executive Michael "Blue" Williams has taken initiative in an attempt to stop gun violence in New York City.
He has suggested a proposal of a “gun dumping site” where people can get rid of their guns and be mentored. Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly supports Williams’ idea but is taking his time with the proposal before he authorizes it. Commissioner Kelly showed his support by stating “We want to get as many guns off the streets, and if this works, we'd like to support it.”
Williams is looking to Beyonce and Jay-Z to help him reach his goal saying, “The Beyoncé show is coming to Brooklyn; the Jay-Z show is coming to Yankee Stadium. Our goal is to reach out to individuals who are in my industry, in my world and who I have an association with and get their support,” he explained. “I think we should all work together to help get guns off the streets.”
Williams has the support of many companies which include, but are not limited to HOT97, the International House of Pancakes, Polo Grounds Music, and Primary Wave Music.
Williams has worked with Outkast, Queen Latifah’s Flavor Unit, Def Jam and La Face Records.
“Guns for Greatness” could shape up to be something big.
