The New York Jets has decided to move in a different direction, cutting their losses on the 2012 season and their experiment with backup quarterback Tim Tebow.

Jets released him this morning after drafting quarterback Geno Smith from West Virginia with their second round pick of this years draft.

In a press release by head coach Rex Ryan he said,

"We have a great deal of respect for Tim Tebow. Unfortunately, things did not work out the way we all had hoped. Tim is an extremely hard worker, evident by the shape he came back in this off season. We wish him the best moving forward."

By trading for him last season the team set off a media circus which made everyone uncomfortable as the season went on. His first day as a Jet included a press conference with over 200 media members as they rushed to ask him questions. Very unusual for a player considered a backup quarterback.

Tebow only threw eight passes this season, none for any touchdowns.
