Moving into a college dorm your freshman year can be a very daunting experience if you're not prepared. We've put together a check list for you, things you should bring along to make your transition into college life easier. HOT 97 hopes that this list will provide some psychological comfort to you in the months to come.
Things you should have with you when you move into the dorm:
1. Shower bucket or tote: A simple but necessary item, an essential for those subjected communal bathroom living. If you leave your stuff in the bathroom it might get stolen, or even worse, someone else might touch it.
2. An electric heating pad: Necessary for heating up ramen, soup, making tea, etc.
3. Cheap, non-perishable food items: Dry soup, peanut butter, that boxed milk stuff with an interminable shelf-life, instant coffee, tea, iced teas/juice mix, cocoa, macaroni and cheese mix, cereal, canned spaghetti, soda, noodles, etc.
4. Cheap, perishable food items: (Assuming you have a refrigerator) cheese, jelly, Mom's leftovers, butter, milk, etc.
5. Address book, plenty of paper, notebooks, stamps, pens, and envelopes.
6. Simple eating utensils: Mugs, bowls, two sets of silverware, etc.
7. Clothes drying rack and/or sweater dryer
8. A piece of home: Something that makes you comfortable. This could be anything, a cushion, a poster, anything that can personalize the dorm environment.
9. Plastic basin: Once you have one of these, you'll wonder how you got by without one. They're useful for dirty dishes, cleaning things, soaking your feet in, etc.
10. Sports equipment: Assuming you like sports.
And of course, whichever college you attend will send you a list of things that they feel you will need.
