AT&T paid for all 25 solar panel stations, allowing people to charge their appliances in public without having to search everywhere for an outlet. This idea came about after Hurricane Sandy hit New York hard, leaving more than 90,000 people without power for weeks. In order to get their phones some juice, they were forced to walk MILES to find electricity. Incase anything ever happens like that again, people will more options to charge their electronics. These panels are located throughout Union Square in Manhattan, Governors Island, and Greene Park in Brooklyn.

Word on the street is that more panels are set to be put up around NYC.
