It was the statement heard around the world, and probably one of the underlying reasons Kanye West is STILL catching hell almost a decade later. In 2005 during the course of a live Telethon, celebrities banded together to bring awareness to the American people of the utter destruction taking place in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. Everyone remembers the violence that ensued, the rioting, the total anarchy, but NO one will ever forget the resounding statement made by West during the LIVE Telethon when standing next to actor Mike Meyers, "Bush doesn't care about about people"!
The passionate rapper never being one to hide his true feelings, spoke his truth after witnessing the whole city of New Orleans under water, and not hardly enough government assistance to handle the severity of what was taking place. We were all thinking it, but Kanye had the platform to say it, and did. Just as much as we will never forget the silence and shock of Yeezy's truthful statement, viewers will never forget the ultra shocked expression on the face of actor Mike Myers, who was standing right next to the rapper.
Well, nine years later actor Mike Myers reflects on that night and the true feelings running through his mind in an interview with GQ
"For me it isn't about the look of embarrassment on my face, it is truly about the injustice that was happening in New Orleans," Myers told GQ about the incident. "I don't mind answering the question but the emphasis of it being that I'm the guy next to the guy who spoke a truth. I assume that George Bush does care about black people -- I mean I don't know him, I'm going to make that assumption -- but I can definitively say that it appeared to me watching television that had that been white people, the government would have been there faster."
