Funkmaster Flex

This right here is so monumental! 20 years ago, Hot 97 was just another nameless station getting its start in one of the toughest markets in the world, and unsure of their future being the SOLE radio station to play Hip Hip in the country. The world for that matter! Well in 1994, a year after Hot's inception a nameless kid from Brooklyn who would forever change the landscape of Hip Hop, Notorious BIG stopped by for his first interview with Funk Flex on “Friday Night Street Jam”, and dropped his first FIERY free style for listeners. Unbeknownst to listeners at the time, his free styles would later become excerpts from tracks, 'Big Droop', 'Unbelievable', and 'Juicy'.

Are you visualizing this? Take into consideration that the interview took place before Biggie had monster single, 'Juicy' and before 'Unbelievable' was the confirmed B-Side. Can you imagine the context of the conversation between BIG and Funk Flex , as well as ALL the historic gems being dropped during the course of it??

Well thanks to technology, we can actually share some of our most memorable and historic milestones in Hop Hop history that we were truly privileged to witness. As a sign of the times, you can even hear BIG's pager going off in the background! Hip Hop heavy weight of the time Craig Mack was also featured in interview.
