Sony has really caught a lot of heat for its marketing campaigns. They where already fined tons of money for the PSP graffiti campaign which didn’t go over well. Now this new promo for the launch of the White PSP is raising lots of eye brows. Maybe it’s just a cleaver way to get more attention to the PSP while the sales of the system are lack luster in comparison to the DS Lite. But whatever it is we are not really sure how to take this ad. It looks like a scene from Rival Schools but it can also be taken in many different ways. You be the judge.
Sony Pulls Controversial/Racist Dutch PSP Ad
Sony needs to fire their marketing team and hire us to do their PSP promotions. But as we reported earlier the Dutch PSP ad had sparked a ton of controversy and heated PSP fans. So Sony has decided to pull the ad all together. “We recognize that the subject matter of one specific image may have caused concern in some countries not directly affected by the advertising. As a result, we have now withdrawn the campaign,” said Sony, which has also removed the image from its Dutch PSP site and apologized to those put off by the ad.
This is Sony’s second failed PR campaign for the PSP. Earlier in the year Sony put together a graffiti campaign to promote the PSP. Well that lead to tons of fines for the company and a lot of bad press. Sony seems to be really missing the mark when it comes to promoting its products. And with the PS3 about to hit the stores they need all the good publicity they can get to sell that $600 toaster.
