The reign of
Tyler, the Creator has no signs of slowing down. After moving from being virtually unknown on the mainstream music scene,
Odd Future's most lyrically gruesome frontman couldn't hide his emotions, tearing up after taking home the Best New Artist trophy at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday night (Aug. 28).
Even though the Los Angeles native seems to shun the spotlight, he reveals that winning the award was a big moment. "It was cool," he tells The Boombox. "I fell off stage into the arms of
Kanye West, so I'm stoked."
No stranger to controversy, Tyler held nothing back when giving his opinion on a fellow artist, which happened to be singer
Bruno Mars, who received four nominations but went home empty-handed. "I say f--- that dude's music. He put on a good performance but I hate his music."
The 2011 MTV Video Music Awards featured star-studded performances from the likes of
Beyonce,
Jay-Z and
Kanye West, Lady Gaga and
Chris Brown.
