Who runs the world? Girls!

Preserving your sexy can be a difficult task but "Black Girls Run" is helping African-American woman across the nation do just that. The movement started in 2009 by creators Ashley Hicks and Toni Carey and it gives African-American women a chance to join a running group in their area led by experienced volunteer runners. There are 60 groups across the nation with over 25,000 members. From the beginner beautiful full figure ladies trying to get healthy to the more advanced runners looking to become more fit or just have fun, they provide great support to their team of sisters. “Our members tell us that they joined the BGR movement to get moving and get healthy and stay because of the positive reinforcement, support, motivation, camaraderie, and inspiration they get from the other women in the group,” says Juanne Renee Harris, one of the Lead Ambassadors of the NYC group. They have participated in races from NYC to the Caribbean to Antarctica and no woman is left behind in a race. "We're there until the end, enthusiastically cheering for our members", says Delanie West of the New Jersey area group. Currently they have a group of women training for the NYC marathon this November as well as a Black Girls Run sponsored race in North Carolina in the fall. There are groups all over the New York area including Queens and the Bronx and the NYC groups have grown from less than 200 members to now over 2300 member since 2011. The groups regularly shares info in person and through social networks about running, nutrition, women health issues, working out, family and relationships. These fashionable ladies also run in style with black and pink shirts sporting their namesake. Preserving your sexy isn't easy but with a great group of sisters it can get easier. Read More
