Did you know that some of your bad habits could be wreaking havoc on your beloved tresses? Are you guilty as charged? Find out if some of your hair rituals make our list of the “Top 7 Hair Crimes”. These are the things you need to do in order to stop the criminal acts you may be committing against our royal manes.
Over-Bleaching: Color can be edgy and stylish, but make sure your stylist doesn’t allow the lightener to stay on too long and that he/she uses a neutralizing shampoo. Otherwise your lovely locks will suffer big time.
Too Much Heat: Flat irons & curling irons will dry out the hair follicle’s inner cortex just as chemicals do. Provide your hair with the shelter it needs and be sure to use a heat protectant before applying a scorching appliance.
Dehydration: Drink plenty of water! Sodas and alcoholic beverages will dry out your hair’s sebaceous glands leaving your strands brittle and weak. Go above and beyond the recommended eight glasses a day – water does a body (and your hair) good!
Poor Diet: Eat right, look right, feel right! If your body lacks the proper vegetables and nutrients, it will reflect in your hair, skin and nails. Be sure to include the following foods to achieve healthy locks, glowing skin, and strong nails: fish, eggs, cabbage, dried beans, nuts, radishes, brussel sprouts, soybeans, peanuts, wheat germ, meat and lean beef.
Hair Grease & Pomades (made with animal fat): We’ve all been told to grease our scalps but the truth is these “heavy greases” create excessive buildup on the scalp. You’re better off using essential oils such as ylang ylang and rosemary.
Blocking Oxygen: Do you wear a wig all day and all night? How about an extra tight stocking cap? If you answered yes, then you’re guilty of blocking oxygen to your scalp and cutting off the necessary blood flow to the root of your hair. Let some air in there!!
Excessive Brushing: Brushing your hair to the extreme will cause thinning and breakage. Brushing does not stimulate hair growth. It actually removes the oil and moisture our hair desperately needs. Keep brushing to a minimum and opt to achieve your look with a wide-toothed comb.
