There's a reason why On Da Reggae Tip is called the "biggest reggae concert of the year" and this year, it lived up that more than ever!
Bobby Konders and Jabba, a symbol of the NYC Caribbean culture, kept the crowd going throughout the night as they introduced acts like I-Octane and Konshens to the stage.
Baby Cham took it to the streets performing hits like "Ghetto Story",Mims version of "This Is Why I'm Hot" and revealed to a screaming audience that the woman on stage singing the hook off of his smash hit, "Wine" was the mother of kids.
Shaggy came ready to take over ODRT and was accompanied by some of his famous friends. Doing his massive hits like "Angel", "It Wasn't Me", and yes ladies and gents, even "Boombastic". But if that wasn't enough, everyone almost hit the floor when he introduced the real rass Don Dada Supercat to the stage.
The Soca Queen Alison Hinds came out reppin' for all the West Indian ladies in the building and wore a skin tight, black laced up suit as she wined it up with her six female background dancers. That lady still has it!
Damian Marley, Stephen Marley, and the Ghetto Youths crew brought us all back to true ragga music. With their live band behind them, you couldn't help but feel like you were transported to Jamaica and taking in the reggae culture. Damian did his hits like "Road To Zion" and "Welcome To Jamrock." The brothers even paid homage to their legendary father Bob Marley and ended their set with "Could You Be Loved". Thinking about the entire Hammerstein Ballroom singing along, as the flag was waving proudly on stage, gives me goosebumps. Their set was one to remember and if you weren't there to experience it, I feel bad for you lol.
When the legend Beenie Man hit the stage the entire place erupted and camera phones were whipped out as quickly as you can say "uncle." Beenie ran through a string of his hits, and there are plenty, as we all know. It was unfortunate he was only able to do a verse off of each but he made sure to play songs like "Girls Dem Sugar" and "Dude" in it's entirety for the ladies to enjoy. This was one performance that gave me goosebumps too, I mean it's Beenie Man.
Last but no least, Mavado blessed the stage and there were no endless shouts of "gangsta for life." The Gully God knows how to close a show! His set already put you in a "gully" mood but it was taken up a few notches when Mavado brought out surprise guests DJ Khaled and the Barbie herself, Nicki Minaj!
On Da Reggae Tip 2013 was one of the best yet and to give you an idea of how amazing the show and how incredible the vibes were inside, I was standing on the cameraman platform and the entire piece was jumping up and down because of the crowd. Yes, it's live, it's bananas, it's HOT 97's On Da Reggae Tip.
