Summer Jam XX Takes Over New Jersey At Met Life Stadium

A year’s worth of planning came to fruition last night at the twenty-year anniversary of Summer Jam.  The annual hip hop concert goes down rain or shine and this year we got a little of both.  The weather didn’t stop 50,000 hip-hop fans from turning out for performances from Wu-Tant-Clan, Chris Brown, French Montana, Wale, Miguel, Fabolous, 2 Chainz, A$AP Rocky and Kendrick Lamar.

In true Summer Jam tradition, the run of show was sprinkled with surprise performances from Mariah Carey, J. Cole, Lil Kim, Bone Thugs & Harmony and Schoolboy Q.  Last Monday’s reconciliation between Nicki Minaj and Rosenberg sparked rumors that the Queens native would touch the Summer Jam stage this year and she did.  Nicki rocked the mic alongside 2 Chainz performing “I Luv Dem Strippers” and “Beez In The Trap” to a roaring audience.

Its not Summer Jam if there isn’t a shocker sometime during the show, and this year in true Summer Jam style, Papoose created his own set when he was invited to make a cameo during Kendrick Lamar’s performance.  Pap performed his new single while fans listened quietly and awaited the highly anticipated performance from French Montana.

Due to torrential weather, we were forced to end the show abruptly but not before French Montana brought out both Rick Ross and Lil Wayne to perform the 2012 summer anthem “Pop That”.  At this point, rain was pounding Met Life Stadium but concertgoers were unbothered and somewhat relieved as the day had been blistering HOT.  Fans chanted lyrics and waved their hands in the air to close out the momentous show.

A special thanks is in order to the entire tri-state for being the driver behind the largest and longest running hip hop concert on the planet.  Thank you for rocking out with HOT 97 for the past 20 years.  Whether you were here from the beginning or are new to this hip-hop thing, it’s all love.
