New on HOT

The legendary musician, poet and actor Saul Williams stopped by Ebro In The Morning to talk “Holler If You Hear Me”, the new Tupac musical on Broadway right now.

The musical “Holler If You Hear Me” is the story of an ex-con who moves back home and changes his community. The play’s characters are based from the stories in Tupac’s music and is produced by Afeni Shakur, Tupac’s mother. Saul Williams said that the play takes hip-hop to the revolutionary new level of the “Great White Way”, which is another name for Broadway. “We’re here to gentrify that,” said Williams, which is why the play is so important, because hip-hop hasn’t traditionally existed on Broadway.

Joshua Boone, who plays Darius in the show, also spoke on the intersection of theater and hip-hop in the play, which features 25 multi-talented MC’s, B-boys, and actors. “It could never be what you imagined, cause our imaginations have been crucified by the media as it is right now!” said Saul Williams.
