Basquiat is Coming Back to Brooklyn [VIDEO]
Jean-Michel Basquait is one of Brooklyn’s most celebrated and influential visual artists of our time.
You might not know him, but you’ve probably heard his name mentioned in hip hop lyrics by artists like Jay-Z, (“It ain't hard to tell, I'm the new Jean Michel”), Swizz Beatz, (“Boy, get lost, My new Basquiat, H.O.V. know what that cost.”), and Kanye, (“You just do a Basquiat painting over the whole test”)
Nearly a decade after his death, he still continues to inspire hip hop culture today. In May, one of Basquiat's paintings sold for $110 million, setting a new record for any U.S. artist at auction.
Yet most Brooklynites have never seen his artwork up close and in person. One group is looking to change that by Bringing Basquiat Back to Brooklyn.
Jen From BK explores the inspiration the artist still has within hip hop music and culture today.
