Push 4 Peace was created in 2011 in Newark, New Jersey by HOT 97's Lisa Evers and her “Street Soldiers” team, and then Mayor Cory Booker, to promote alternatives to violence and gang involvement.
In 2016, the 6th annual Push 4 Peace Town Hall event was held at Brooklyn Borough Hall, in partnership with Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams. The purpose was to bring together youth, community leaders, artists, athletes and entertainers to focus on solutions and alternatives to violence, with a strong focus on improving police-community relations. The Town Hall aired as a special episode of "Street Soldiers" on HOT 97, and as a special two-part TV special on FOX 5.
In 2015, Murda Mook joined Lisa and Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams, focusing on “Gangs, Guns & Broken Lives: Moving Beyond the Violence”:
