Los Angeles Clippers’ owner, Donald Sterling, has dug himself such a deep a hole I don’t think he will ever come out.
The world caught wind Sterling’s racist comments about “black people” when audio was released of a conversation between his mistress V.Stiviano who is of Mexican/African American decent.
Everyone from everywhere reacted to the audio including President Obama who’s visiting Malaysia this week. The President had this to say, "The United States continues to wrestle with legacy of race and slavery and segregation. That's still there . . . We've made enormous strides, but you're going to continue to see this percolate up . . . We have to continue denouncing it and teach our children differently. I don't think I have to interpret those statements for you . . . They kind of speak for themselves . . . When ignorant folks want to advertise their ignorance, you don't have to do anything. You just let them talk."
The G.O.A.T Michael Jordan, who’s also an owner himself released this statement, "I look at this from two perspectives — as a current owner and a former player. As an owner, I'm obviously disgusted that a fellow team owner could hold such sickening and offensive views. I'm confident that [Commissioner] Adam Silver will make a full investigation and take appropriate action quickly. As a former player, I'm completely outraged. There is no room in the NBA — or anywhere else — for the kind of racism and hatred that Mr. Sterling allegedly expressed. I am appalled that this type of ignorance still exists within our country and at the highest levels of our sport. In a league where the majority of players are African-American, we cannot and must not tolerate discrimination at any level."
Magic Johnson, who was one of the reasons why Sterling went off, after his mistress posted up a photo of herself with the legend on Instagram (shown above, was on
ESPN’s NBA Countdown and addressed the situation:
Finally LeBron James says outright, a person like Donald Sterling, does not belong in the league saying, "If the reports are true, it's unacceptable. It's unacceptable in our league. It doesn't matter if you're white, black, Hispanic, whatever, all across the races. It's unacceptable and as a commissioner in our league, they have to make a stand, and they have to be very aggressive with it . . . There is no room for Donald Sterling in our league, man. There it is."
The L.A Clippers were very close to not participating in the playoff game against the Warriors yesterday but instead opted to throw their warm up suits on the court and wear their practice jerseys inside out in protest of Sterling.
Word has it, Sterling has had a long history of racism too from employees giving their take on the owner, housing and more!
TMZ is reporting that Virgin America, CarMax, & State Farm have cut off their sponsorships with the team. The NAACP, who were planning to honor Sterling with a Lifetime Achievement Award, will no longer present it to him.
The NBA announced they would be holding a press conference on the investigation into Donald Sterling on Tuesday.
This story is crazy, ignorant, disturbing and unbelievable…
