In the winter of 2005, southern soulster T-Pain burst on the rhythmic scene with his debut Rappa Ternt Sanga and things just ain’t been the same. As a former microphone fiend who was down with the rap pack known as the Nappy Headz, a five-man group who had moderate success with "Robbery" in the early 2000’s, T-Pain was tired of the borders that divides hip-hop and soul, especially since he was excellent at both.

"I just got tired of turning on the radio and everything just sounding the same,” remarks the Tallahassee, Florida native whose government name is Faheem Najm. "I know it might sound corny, but I wanted to try and make something different." After doing an unofficial remix of Akon's "Locked Up," the African sensation signed T-Pain to his Konvict Music imprint.

Jadakiss has earned this. When you litter two decades of hip-hop with landmark verses, when you roll with some of the most formidable crews to ever huddle up in the rap game and still make a name for yourself as a solo artist, when your talent is so internationally known you can hold it down in any area code, when you’ve been in the game as long as he has and still sound as fresh to death as he does, when you’ve rocked the stage with Biggie and held your own, then…and only then…can you name your album Kiss My Ass.

Jim Jones is splayed across a leather sofa at New York’s Empire Studio, eyes half-mast, the hint of a wry grin creasing his face. His head bops almost imperceptibly to the refrains of “Pop Champagne,” the first single off his forthcoming album on Sony/Columbia, Pray IV Reign. Empire, incidentally, is his: a recent two-million dollar construction with a view like that of its landmark namesake. By all appearances, Jim Jones is immersed in his own private world. Suddenly his eyes widen alarmedly, and he bolts to the engineer’s desk, shouting “That’s not right!” Apparently he’s detected a sonic flaw in the record. The vignette is a microcosm of the man: under a veneer of calm and unflappability burns one of this generation’s fiercest spirits.

Over the past few years, the hip-hop game has watched Juelz Santana become one of its brightest stars, its biggest personalities, and its finest MCs. Whether solo or with his Diplomats brethren - Cam'ron, Jim Jones, JR Writer, etc - Juelz has begun to let us in on a little secret: the game's been missing something vital, and he's got it. A certain cooler-than-thou swagger, an attitude, the flash of a menacing snarl. "Human Crack In The Flesh," he calls it.

Mavado also featured in the Anger Management medley video alongside Bounty Killer, Elephant Man, Vybz Kartel, Bling Dawg and Predator.
