The HOT 97 Morning Show

Yesterday, white smoke rose from the Vatican, signaling that a new Pope for the Roman Catholic Church has been appointed. Thousands of people anxiously waited outside the Vatican to see who would emerge from the balcony.

Jorge Mario Bergoglio is the first Latin American pontiff, and from now on will be known to the world as Pope Francis. Pope Francis has replaced Pope Benedict XVI, the first pope to resign in over 6 centuries.

Pope Francis now takes on his role as the leader of 1.2 million Catholics around the globe after two days and five ballots for him to be chosen by cardinals.
