Jennifer Hudson tried her hardest not to get teary-eyed during her acceptance speech at the 2013 Do Something! Awards.

But it was tough, especially when being awarded for co-founding the Julian D. King Foundation with her sister, a social change establishment, named after her nephew who was murdered in 2008 alongside her mother and brother.

The Julian D. King Foundation provides low income families in Hudson's hometown, Chicago, with school supplies.
