Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick Is About To Do Some Serious Time Behind Bars

Yesterday former Detroit Mayor Kwame M. Kilpatrick was sentenced to 28 years in federal prison. Kwame M. Kilpatrick is a 43 year old mayor was elected back when he was 31. He was known as “The Hip-Hop Mayor” because of of his choice of clothing, oh and his earring and ever-present two-way pager. Although Kilpatrick brought so much allure to the cities riverfront and much-needed business investment downtown during his term as mayor. People of the city made him out to be the symbol of youth and hope just to be let down because they ended up discovering it was really all a scandal. “He’s become the poster child of what went wrong with the city and why it went bankrupt,” said Adolph Mongo, a political consultant who worked for Mr. Kilpatrick’s re-election campaign.. Even with all of that Mongo doesn’t believe all the cities problems can be blamed on just one elected leader “It was a house of cards,” Mr. Mongo said of Detroit’s fiscal health. “Kilpatrick was the last card. He fell and it knocked everything down.”
