Hitting The Beach This Summer? Here Are The Best + Worst Of NYC!

According to the Natural Resources Defense Council, NYC beaches aren’t exactly the best.

The report ranked beaches from 1 to 5 stars with the beaches who were awarded 5 stars earning the title of “Superstar” Beach.

New York City technically has no "superstar beaches."

But don't be alarmed, NYC does have a large list of 4 star beaches. Beaches like Coney Island between Brighton 6th Street to Ocean Parkway and Ocean Parkway to West 8th Street (both were assessed separately), and Rockaway Beach from 116th Street to 126th Street in Queens earned a 4 star rating.

The filthiest beaches in the city can be found in the Bronx with “15 percent of water samples violating health standards.” New York State is beach water quality is rated as the 22th out of 30. Swimming in contaminated beaches as such can lead to various issues like skin rashes, hepatitis and even pink eye.

Stay out the Bronx.
