NYPD Seized 254 Illegal Guns After Rapper Brags On Social Media
Yesterday, Mayor Bloomberg revealed to the media that NYPD undercover cops seized 254 illegal firearms, which included machine guns, high capacity assault rifles and handguns.
How did the biggest illegal firearm bust get cracked? Through none other than Instagram and YouTube.
A rapper posted photos of the guns and cash, while in a recording studio above a restaurant in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn.
The sting between the NYPD, Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, and the office of Special Narcotics Prosecutor nabbed 19 members of the gun-trafficking ring. According to the Mayor, the gun trafficking went as far as the Carolinas, where half of the weapons came from.
At a press conference at NYPD headquarters on Monday Mayor Bloomberg also stated, “There is no doubt that the seizure of these guns — the largest bust in the city's history — has saved lives. For that reason, every New Yorker in every part of our city, owes a debt of thanks to all those involved in this investigation.”
According to Buzzfeed, parties investigating received a tip off to the ring, which resulted in the firearms ending up in Brooklyn.
