Miami Heat Legend Dwyane Wade was honored with a statue of his likeness but many could not see the resemblance. Unvlied outside the Kaseya Center in Miami, he became the first Heat player to receive a statue.

The ceremony took place on Sunday (October 27), and the look of the statue caught many by surprise including the NBA Hall of Famer.

“That’s crazy. I can’t believe that. Who’s that guy?” Wade said following the unveiling.

In the surreal moment, Wade said he never expected such a grand gesture by the Heat organization.

“I wanted to feel this. Life goes by so fast, and it’s very rare that we get to feel things, because we’re always off to the next thing. … I wanted to feel this, man. I wanted to look at it.”

After the ceremony, social media was quick to give their take on how the statue looked nothing like the NBA Hall of Famer.

“They really turned D Wade statue into Morpheus from the Matrix,” one user wrote on X(Formerly Twitter).

“This statue is so bad it’s making me forget what Dwayne Wade actually looks like. The longer I look, the harder it is for me to picture his real face,” another user posted.

During his illustrious career, Wade won three NBA championships and was a Finals MVP. He was also a 13-time NBA All-Star, made the All-NBA team 8 times, and was named to the NBA’s 75th Anniversary Team in October 2021. He was inducted into the Naismith Hall of Fame in 2023.

Currently, part owner of the WNBA owner of the Chicago Sky, and the minority owner of the NBA’s Utah Jazz.

Attending the ceremony were Wade’s wife Gabrielle Union, his son Zaire Wade, and daughters Zaya, 17, and Kaavia, 5. Also, WNBA star A’ja Wilson and Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo were in attendance.
