In a landslide victory, Jason Lee was elected to the city of Stockton’s City Council. Lee will represent District 6, located on the south side of Stockton.

According to KTLA, Lee won the seat by a large margin unseating incumbent and Stockton’s Vice Mayor Kimberley Warmsley.

On Wednesday morning (Nov. 6), the Hollywood Unlocked CEO took to Instagram to express his appreciation for his supporters.

“Deeply honored to have earned the support and trust of my neighbors, the voters of my hometown, and you,” Lee wrote. “Now I begin the work of creating safer and stronger communities, improving our quality of life, and charting our next chapter.”

“Heck, forget the next chapter. We will write a whole new book!”

Born and raised in Stockton, Lee eventually moved to Los Angeles in the early ’00s. He went on to become a cast member of  “Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood” in 2015. Lee was a recurring cast member on Nick Cannon’s sketch series “Wild ‘N Out.”

In March, Lee won the primary for the seat by winning 42% of the vote among the six candidates who were running for the seat. His platform included youth empowerment, community engagement, and economic development.

After years of being in the media, Lee spoke about how the transition into the political world has been.

“It’s very different from being in the media and covering pop culture to being in politics. When I talk on Hollywood Unlocked, people are going to like my opinion or not,” Lee told BET.com. “But when you’re in the streets trying to tackle homelessness, trying to make the street safer for kids,  making sure people live in market-rate housing, and have a community that can thrive again, it’s a very different experience.”

Lee brings a wealth of experience to his new position. Previously, he worked as a probation officer and with a labor union for more than a decade.

“Running for office took me back to my days of working for the Union which I did for 11 years at SEIU. This is real purposeful work,” Lee explained. “But being able to help people in my community where I grew up, where my family still lives, where I’ve moved back to, is where the heart is. It’s my passion.”
