Too $hort‘s older brother, Wayne Shaw, has been fatally shot in East Oakland.
On Wednesday, January 28, Oakland police reported the incident occurred on a sidewalk as a group of men tried ramming a car into the front doors of a marijuana dispensary. Shaw then confronted them outside the store, leading to the robbers opening fire on him. As the culprits left the scene, he was rushed to the hospital, where he was soon pronounced dead. Police Lieutenant Gloria Beltra stated, “The suspects arrived to the location.” “They attempted to force their way into the property. While they were attempting their way in, the victim stepped out, was confronted by the suspects. The suspects fired several rounds at the victim.”
Furthermore, authorities will also investigate Shaw’s relations with the cannabis store, due to the business operating without a license, which is a felony. The investigation is still ongoing. As the hunt for the culprits is in effect, police request to contact the Homicide Section at (510) 238-3821 or the TIP LINE at 238-7950. Additional information could also be sent to cidvideos@oaklandca.gov.
Too $hort Remains Silent as Police Seek Suspects in Tragic Shooting
Thus far, Too $hort has not addressed his brother’s passing, and police still have yet to make any apprehensions.
The tragedy unfolded close to where Too $hort has a street in his name. Unveiled in 2022, local politicians assisted the rapper with renaming the three-block radius on Foothill Boulevard to “Too $hort Way.” $hort took his excitement to social media, saying, “December 10th it’s official. Blow the mafuckin whistle Biiiiiiiitch!!!!!”
Additionally, the Bay Area legend was given his own local holiday for December 10th: Too $hort Day. Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf voiced, “You have told the stories of Oakland’s streets.” “So it’s only right that Oakland gives you a street!!!”
