Irv Gotti’s loved ones are preparing for a major gathering at his funeral, set for February 18th in Jamaica, Queens. The hip-hop mogul passed away on February 5th at 54, just days after suffering a massive stroke.
Sources confirmed to AllHipHop that the service will take place at Greater Allen A.M.E. Cathedral, a church with deep roots in the community where Gotti first made a name for himself as “DJ Irv.” The cathedral’s main sanctuary can accommodate up to 2,500 attendees, a necessary capacity given Gotti’s lasting impact on the music industry.
As the founder of Murder Inc. Records, Gotti played a pivotal role in shaping the careers of Ja Rule, Ashanti, Mic Geronimo, Jay-Z, DMX, Ruff Ryders, and more. His influence stretched far beyond production, solidifying him as a key figure in hip-hop history.
He leaves behind his children Angie, Sonny, and Jonathan Wilson; his brother and Murder Inc. co-founder Chris Gotti; his mother, Nee Nee Lorenzo; and sisters Tina and Angie.
Following the announcement of his passing, Gotti’s family shared a heartfelt statement on his Instagram, reflecting on his legacy. “Our dad was an incredible man, a true visionary who transformed the Hip-Hop industry and changed the game for artists and fans alike,” they wrote. “His passion for music and dedication to his craft inspired many, and his contributions will continue to influence future generations.”
The statement also requested privacy as they mourn, adding, “We take comfort in knowing that his spirit will live on through his music and the love he shared with all of us.”
Gotti had battled diabetes-related health issues for years, and reports revealed he suffered a second stroke just seven months prior to his death.
