Erykah Badu is making headlines for a little car trouble—but this time, it’s self-inflicted. With Tesla vandalism on the rise following Elon Musk’s White House visit, Badu jokingly joined in on the trend. Taking to X, she wrote, “Just vandalized my own Tesla. Trying to stay on trend.”
Over the past few months, protests against Tesla have intensified. Showrooms, charging stations, and even personal vehicles have been targeted as consumers push back against the company. Many critics are speaking out against Musk’s leadership at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and the mass layoffs linked to his decisions. Safety concerns surrounding Tesla’s technology, like braking malfunctions, have only added fuel to the fire.
Demonstrations have escalated, with one Tesla location in Las Vegas even being set on fire. Badu’s post seems to be more playful than political, but she’s no stranger to making bold statements.
Lately, the Grammy-winning artist has been focused on her long-awaited return to music. She’s set to release her first album in 15 years, produced by The Alchemist. The project follows 2010’s New Amerykah Part Two (Return of the Ankh), marking a major comeback for the soul icon.
Beyond music, Badu is being recognized for her influence. On March 29th, she’ll be celebrated with the Icon Award at the Billboard Women in Music 2025 ceremony.
