Angel Reese is remaining focused on her game and unfazed by outside criticism after winning her third consecutive BET Sportswoman of the Year Award.

As previously reported, Boxing champion, Claressa Shields expressed disappointment on X after losing the Sportswoman of the Year award to Angel Reese at the 2025 BET Awards on June 9, 2025.

“Still don’t know how I didn’t win the Sportswoman of the Year for the BET Awards, but Congrats to Angel Reese and all the other nominees. I just thought accolades mattered” Shields tweeted.

While Reese didn’t directly address Shields’ comments, her post-game remarks reflected confidence, humility, and a commitment to growth. “It’s great… I think it really meant something to people because it’s me,” Reese said of her BET honor. She also acknowledged her recent on-court struggles, stating, “I haven’t been playing well at all… I take accountability, try to be better than the last day.”

Reese emphasized that she’s blocking out distractions and criticism as she continues her WNBA journey. “I don’t complain, I don’t care about anything else. I’m just here to go to work every day and go home,” she said.

In defense of Reese, Washington Mystics teammate Ariel Atkins weighed in, praising the 22-year-old for her resilience under constant public scrutiny. “This is a 23-year-old kid and the amount of crap that she gets on day-to-day, and she still shows up… Her crown is heavy,” Atkins said.
