Jeezy recalls Jay-Z removing him from Beyonce’s ‘Drunk In Love.’
During a recent interview, Jeezy revealed a surprising behind-the-scenes story involving one of Beyoncé’s biggest hits, “Drunk In Love.” The Atlanta native shared that he was originally featured on the track but was ultimately removed—by none other than Jay-Z.
Jeezy explained that he recorded a verse for the 2013 single, which later became a chart-topping collaboration between Beyoncé and Jay-Z. However, when the final version was released, his contribution had been cut.
“I dropped the ball when I wrote my verse for ‘Drunk In Love’ for Beyoncé,” The Snowman recalled. “Hov called me. He’s like, ‘I took you off the song. By the way, I’m on there.’ I was like, ‘I figured that.’ It’s on someone’s drive. Tell Bey we need to put that out. It’s some vintage.”
Jeezy says the only time he was in the studio with Jay-Z and Queen Bey was when he was writing the “Drunk In Love” verse. “He came in the room and she’s like, ‘You got something for this?’ You know, I’m going in. It sounded crazy. This is her song, but I’m just trying to go hard. He probably like, ‘Oh nah. We no putting that out.’”
“Drunk In Love” went on to become one of Beyoncé’s most iconic records, earning critical acclaim and a Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance. Jay-Z’s presence on the track further cemented their status as a music power couple, but Jeezy’s revelation gives fans a new glimpse into how the collaboration came together—and what could’ve been.
