Hulk Hogan, the former WWE wrestler whose name became synonymous with 1980s and ‘90s pro wrestling, has died at the age of 71. According to TMZ Sports, emergency responders were dispatched to his Clearwater, Florida home early Thursday morning following reports of cardiac arrest. He was transported from the scene on a stretcher and taken to a nearby hospital.
In recent months, Hogan, born Terry Bollea, had been battling various health issues. His wife, Sky, publicly denied rumors in June that he was in a coma, stating his heart was “strong” and that he was continuing to recover from a neck surgery he underwent in May. At the time, sources close to Hogan insisted he was not on his “deathbed,” despite the growing speculation.
Hogan’s final years were marked by health complications and controversy, including fallout from racist comments that surfaced in 2015. Though reinstated into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2018, the incident damaged his public image and strained his relationship with many fans and fellow wrestlers.
The Osceola County Medical Examiner’s Office has not yet released an official cause of death.
Hogan is survived by his wife Sky and two children.
