Kehlani is taking her music beyond the stage this summer, weaving activism and motherhood into a grassroots project aimed at easing the daily grind for mothers across the country. On August 9, the Grammy-nominated singer will roll out “Nini’s Fluff & Fold,” a free laundry service set to travel to major U.S. cities.
The initiative, named after her daughter Adeya’s nickname, “Nini,” will pop up in Atlanta, Los Angeles, Oakland, Chicago, Charlotte, Washington, D.C., and New York City. At each stop, mothers and caregivers will be able to drop off their laundry at no cost, with refreshments, care packages, and music-themed merchandise on hand. For Kehlani, the goal is simple but profound—give parents, especially those from underserved communities, a few hours of relief and recognition.
The project arrives on the heels of “Folded,” her moody R&B single released in June. Built on warm harmonies and candid lyricism, the track explores vulnerability, emotional strain, and the path to renewal. Through Nini’s Fluff & Fold, Kehlani is turning that lyrical metaphor into action—suggesting that just as clothes can be washed, folded, and restored, so too can people reclaim a sense of wholeness.
“It’s about care you can feel,” she’s said in recent livestreams, framing the pop-up events as communal spaces for connection. Beyond clean clothes, they offer conversation, solidarity, and a reminder that self-care can be both accessible and collective.
Kehlani’s commitment to advocacy is longstanding. Over the years, she’s spoken out on LGBTQ+ rights, mental health, and Black maternal health, often using her platform to center marginalized voices. Motherhood, which began for her in 2019, has only sharpened that focus. “Everything I put out has to reflect that,” she told fans, referring to how raising her daughter has reshaped her art and activism.
There’s no confirmed release date for a new album, but Folded feels like a curtain-raiser to a new creative chapter—one rooted in intentionality and connection. With Nini’s Fluff & Fold, Kehlani is doing more than promoting a single.
She’s creating spaces of care and resilience, proving that love, when folded into everyday acts, can be as transformative as any song.
