The once-solid alliance between Gunna and Young Thug is showing cracks, sending ripples through fans and industry insiders alike. Their strained relationship highlights the intricate web of loyalty, reputation, and business that defines contemporary hip-hop.

For those who followed their rise, the unraveling of a partnership that produced hits like Lesbian, Oh Okay, Hot, and DOLLAZ ON MY HEAD is disheartening. Future collaborations now feel uncertain, depriving the music world of the creative chemistry that once set the duo apart. Beyond personal ties, the rift forces those in their orbit to navigate divided loyalties, magnifying existing tensions among fans and collaborators.

Southside Backs Thug, Snubs Gunna

Atlanta producer Southside addressed the friction on Drink Champs, noting that his loyalty to Young Thug prevents him from working with Gunna. “I ain’t making no beats for him,” he said firmly. “Right is right, wrong is wrong. I’m a street n**** at the end of the day.” Reflecting on his long-term collaboration with Thug, including pivotal tracks like Danny Glover, he added, “That’s been my friend for a long time. So, I can never go against what he say.” When asked whether Gunna had violated street codes, Southside remained neutral: “I don’t really wanna — ’cause I feel like that’s they sh*t,” though he acknowledged he personally would have acted differently.

Gunna’s legal troubles, culminating in a December 2022 plea deal, have intensified scrutiny. Though he maintains he did not cooperate with prosecutors during the YSL investigation, lingering allegations of snitching continue to shadow his reputation. The fallout has prompted some, including Young Thug, to reassess their associations, underscoring the delicate balance of trust and perception in the industry. A recently leaked verse from Lil Baby’s forthcoming album hints at this reality, suggesting that Gunna’s influence may have hinged on the alliances he once maintained.
