Mariah the Scientist has officially scored her first No. 1 album. Her album Hearts Sold Separately takes the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s Top R&B Albums chart for the week of September 6th. The project, released through Buckles Laboratories/Epic Records, marks the first time she has led the chart.
According to Luminate, the album earned 36,000 equivalent units in its first week of release, covering Aug. 22 to Aug. 28. The majority came from streaming, with fans generating 42.3 million on-demand plays across audio and video platforms, translating to 32,000 units. Traditional sales added another 4,000 units, while track-equivalent albums accounted for only a small amount.
This is Mariah’s second entry on the Top R&B Albums list. Her previous release, To Be Eaten Alive in 2023, reached a peak of No. 14. With Hearts Sold Separately, she not only tops the R&B ranking but also secures new personal bests, opening at No. 3 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and No. 11 on the all-genre Billboard 200.
The album campaign was led by “Burning Blue,” a breakout single that introduced Mariah to a broader audience. Back in May, the track landed at No. 25 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming her first top 40 entry. It also gave her a top 10 hit on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. With the release of the full album, “Burning Blue” has climbed even higher, hitting No. 2 on Hot R&B Songs and No. 3 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs this week.
Ten tracks from Hearts Sold Separately now appear on Hot R&B Songs, including “Is It a Crime” with Kali Uchis at No. 7, “Sacrifice” at No. 8, and “Rainy Days” at No. 10. Other standouts include “Like You Never,” “Eternal Flame,” and “No More Entertainers,” all of which debuted strongly.
