Judge Joe Brown is stirring controversy after a recent sit-down with The Art of Dialogue where he took aim at Lizzo in a rant that quickly went viral. The former television judge spent much of the interview tearing into the singer, criticizing her appearance rather than her music and resorting to insults that many online have called cruel.

One of the main moments Brown brought up was Lizzo’s 2022 performance at the Library of Congress, when she played President James Madison’s historic crystal flute. Instead of celebrating the milestone, he attacked her look at the event. “She shows up naked with a flimsy little piece of lingerie on, looking like a Hogzilla playing that glass flute,” he said. He claimed her outfit clashed with the formal gowns and traditional attire typically associated with such occasions, even though he admitted, “Yes, she has talent, but what is she doing?”

Brown then pivoted to a broader critique of beauty standards. He compared past Sports Illustrated models to today’s, arguing that the older covers featured what he described as “beautiful, toned bodies, looked like racehorses.” In contrast, he said, “now you got fat slobs on there that look like they couldn’t run from the front porch to the sidewalk.”

His comparisons only grew harsher. He likened Lizzo to Miss Piggy, warned that women with larger bodies face serious health risks, and claimed that society was glorifying unhealthy lifestyles. “They’re going to drop dead of a heart attack, strokes, or type 2 diabetes because of the problems. That’s not healthy,” Brown said. He even suggested Lizzo’s confidence is an act, stating, “That woman detests and despises herself, but she broadcasts it…to convince others that she’s proud of it. She’s not. She needs help. Not adulation.” To cap it off, he joked it was not “fair to Gloria,” the hippo from Madagascar.

Brown’s tirade quickly lit up social media, with critics slamming his words as out of touch. Lizzo, whose brand celebrates self-love and body positivity, has not issued a response.
