On Monday (Jan.12), Hip-Hop celebrated the announcement of Bronx media personality Kid Mero joining Hot 97 as the station’s new morning show host, launching “Hot 97 Mornings With Mero.” Mero, whose real name is Joel Armogasto Martinez, will be on the air bright and early, Monday through Friday, from 6 AM to 10 AM.
“Whooo, haha, Mornings with Mero, y’all,” said Mero in an announcement clip on HOT 97’s Instagram post captioned, “Our new host has arrived….”
By calling himself “the human durag flap,” Mero leaned into the persona audiences recognize from podcasting, television, and social media. Fans would mention all of the new radio host’s nicknames in the comment sections. This show, he suggested, will sound like New York.
Mero promised consistency, saying he would be on air “faithfully, every Monday through Friday, 6 to 10.” He framed morning radio as companionship, joking that he would be “the most consistent voice in your life.”

His humor pushed further with a riff about parents. “If you got bad parents, I’m your daddy now,” he wrote, more of his signature humor. The new radio show will feature a fresh new look for the station, promising huge success.
“Mornings with Mero, baby, lock in,” he added, positioning the show as appointment listening. A die-hard New York Knicks fan, the news of Kid Mero joining the legendary radio station has been met with nothing but positivity. Proving Hot97 made the right choice.
The response across hip-hop media and radio culture was immediate. Funk Flex welcomed him publicly, writing, “We all family! We rolling!”
Veteran journalist Rob Markman echoed that sentiment, posting, “Congratulations to @THEKIDMERO — the new morning show host at Hot 97.”
Former HOT 97 morning voice Ebro Darden also weighed in with simple approval, writing, “This is great!”
NBA legend Carmelo Anthony, Mero’s co-host on 7PM in Brooklyn, added emphatic support with, “YESSSSSSSIRRRRRRR.”
Media personality Low Key summed up the moment with, “They got it right! Congrats @THEKIDMERO.”
Together, the reactions framed HOT 97 Mornings With Mero as a cultural reset rooted in familiarity. Mero’s announcement did more than celebrate a new role. It set expectations.
HOT 97’s new era has arrived.
