Ray J’s manager Melinda Santiago has issued a statement regarding the R&B singer’s recent Valentine’s Day performance in Shreveport, Louisiana.
On Feb. 14, the 45-year-old R&B singer took the stage despite visible medical distress. Viral footage from the show captures blood streaming from one eye as he performed in dark sunglasses. A cardiac monitor was taped to his chest.
At one point, Ray J removed his shirt, exposing medical equipment and blood stains near the device. He continued singing, stepped into the crowd, and passed out roses to fans.
“We all know that Ray J has been under the weather, but all my artists that work with me gotta do their job whether they are bleeding or not,” Santiago told People.

Days before the concert, the “One Wish” crooner signaled that his health remained fragile. “I’m putting my life on the line for this show!!” he wrote on Facebook.
In January, he revealed more in an Instagram video. “I was in a hospital,” he said. “My heart’s only beating like 25 percent, but as long as I stay focused and stay on the right path, everything will be all right.”
During a separate Instagram Live, he added, “2027 is definitely a wrap for me,” claiming doctors warned he may not have long to live. He also admitted past alcohol and drug abuse contributed to his condition.
Ray J later reinforced her stance, posting a photo beside Santiago with the caption, “WHATEVER MELINDA SAYS GOES.”
According to TMZ, Ray J was hospitalized in Las Vegas on Jan. 7 for severe pneumonia and heart pain. He previously battled pneumonia in 2021.
Now, the Shreveport show fuels debate about artist wellness and industry pressure, as fans question the cost of pushing through pain for performance.
