TLC’s Chilli Responds To Backlash Over Trump Campaign Donations

TLC’s Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas is setting the record straight on her support for MAGA after public records revealed she not only donated to Donald Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign but also to several other right-wing-leaning organizations. Over the weekend, the “Waterfalls” singer jumped on Instagram to offer clarification on her political stance.

“I WANT TO BE CLEAR: I am not MAGA and do not support any of the many policies that are causing great harm to the American people,” she wrote. “I made a mistake too many make: I did not read the fine print. I thought I was supporting causes against human trafficking and for veterans,” she continued.

She added, “Two things I care deeply about, as my dad is a veteran, and everyone knows I love children. I have learned a valuable lesson and ask for grace as I navigate this. Love, Chilli.” Along with a written post, Chilli shared a video offering further clarification on a conspiracy theory she reposted, linked to former first lady Michelle Obama.

Chilli Addresses Conspiracy Theory Post About Michelle Obama

“Hey guys, I wanted to come on here to address a few things that are circulating on the Internet that’s very concerning to me,” she said. “Let me say this first: I have the utmost respect and admiration for Michelle Obama, and I would never say or do anything that is disrespectful to her or to any woman.” The singer claims that she isn’t “computer-savvy” and had “no clue” about the repost until people reached out to her.

“So I’m looking for this repost button, and I see that …. all of these buttons are very, very close to each other, and clearly, I was scrolling, and my thumb hit the repost button,” the musician continued. “Again, I had no clue that something like this happened until I got all the calls.”

In a statement to PEOPLE, a rep for Chilli says that it’s “unfortunate” that the singer’s “intentions are being misrepresented,” noting that Chilli “has always led with heart, compassion and a genuine desire to give back.” The rep added that Chilli “does not align with MAGA ideology, nor does she support any policies rooted in harm or division.”
