Pooh Shiesty is set to face trial early next year in a case tied to allegations of kidnapping and robbery involving Gucci Mane. The case stems from a disputed contract matter. The proceedings have already drawn renewed attention after prosecutors recently introduced photographic evidence last week. In addition, a leaked video emerged on Wednesday and quickly circulated across social media platforms. Reaction online has been immediate and divided. Some people interpret the footage as damaging, while others caution against drawing conclusions ahead of trial.
Among those pushing back is Bradford Cohen, Shiesty’s former attorney, who stepped away from the case in April. At the time of his departure, Cohen stressed that it had nothing to do with doubts about the defense strategy or the strength of the arguments being prepared. Instead, he maintained that weaknesses exist in the prosecution’s approach. He also suggested the case remains open to challenge.
Attorney disputes case, evidence, jurisdiction claims
Speaking on the leaked video, Cohen called it “nasty work.” He also argued that it does not establish the federal kidnapping charge alleged by prosecutors. He questioned whether the case belongs in federal court at all. Specifically, he pointed to jurisdictional concerns under the Commerce Clause and noted what he describes as an absence of key cellphone evidence that would typically support federal involvement.
Cohen has also criticized the broader direction of the prosecution. He suggested the case has been shaped over time in ways that may overreach the available evidence. One of the central allegations includes claims that Shiesty brandished an AK-47 during the incident. However, no such weapon appears in the recently circulated footage.
As the trial approaches, Cohen insists the video will not ultimately determine the outcome. The court will begin weighing the full scope of evidence when proceedings begin next year. This will leave the final judgment to a jury.
