The Purple Blueprint: Alli Cazaam is Rewriting Music History

At 16, Alli Cazaam Nelson is already carving out a musical identity that extends far beyond being Prince’s daughter.

The Brooklyn-born musician, songwriter, producer and guitar designer began playing instruments at 6. Since then, she has released three full-length studio albums registered with Billboard, collaborated with established artists and launched Cupid Guitars, her own guitar company.

Despite her family legacy, Alli says her approach to music comes from a deeper place.

“My father taught me that music is a spiritualistic journey that transcends you in life,” she says.

That philosophy has helped Alli resist pressure to follow industry trends or replicate her father’s career. Instead, she says authenticity remains central to her creative process.

“I will never conform to industry norms,” Alli says. “That is a promise.”

Alli Cazaam Shaping Her Own Legacy Like Prince

Her ambitions have come with challenges. Alli was born with epilepsy and has navigated physical obstacles while pursuing music at an age when most artists are still finding their creative voice. She has also dealt with comparisons to Prince, but views those expectations as motivation to establish her own legacy.

Her résumé already reflects that ambition. At 12, Alli signed a development deal. A year later, she released her first full-length album and formed the Aurora-Starlight Orchestra, an 81-piece ensemble. She has also been credited as the youngest recording artist to release three full-length studio albums, surpassing milestones associated with Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson and Prince.

One personal moment reinforced her connection to her father’s legacy. After earning her driver’s license in Minnesota, Alli celebrated at a local restaurant when a woman approached her and shared what Prince’s music meant to her family. The woman told Alli she believed her father’s spirit was still watching over her, a moment the teenager says she will never forget.

Now, Alli has her sights set on international touring, cross-genre collaborations, expanding Cupid Guitars and eventually writing a memoir about her time with Prince.

For Alli, honoring her father does not mean recreating his career. It means creating something that belongs entirely to her.
