For the entire summer of 2018, everyone was saying “free JT.”

Drake even mentioned it in his “In My Feelings” video that same year with the free JT jacket. This was big for the City Girls since they just arrived on the music scene.

Born Jatavia Shakara Johnson aka JT, took to social media to reflect on her time in jail. She said that she’s proud of herself for completing prison. She also said that during this time, God “humbled” her because she was in a different environment and had to take orders from strangers. Take a look:

JT was locked up in 2018 for fraud. This was seemingly a set back for the group since their single “Act Up” was doing numbers and heating up the streets. She was slated to be released in 2020 but got out earlier in Oct. 2019.

Yung Miami had to hold the fort down. It was a rough time for her because people criticized Yung Miami’s performing and rapping skills. Some even said the group wasn’t the same without JT.

Yung Miami did hold it down. She performed at our 2019 Summer Jam concert on both the festival and the main stage. Yung Miami was also pregnant at the time.

Now that the duo is back, fans are excited about their new endeavors!
