We learned yesterday that Meek Mill’s latest attempt to be released from prison was rebuffed yet again by Judge Genece Brinkley.
While currently under investigation by the FBI, she is still presiding over his case, and deciding against allowing him to be released on bail.
According to TMZ, her reasons are that the lawyers waiting too long to make their argument against his 2007 arresting officer Reginald Graham, in an investigation over corruption in the entire department.
First, she’s being a stickler on deadlines … saying Meek’s request needed to be filed a year after his original 2009 sentence became final. Of course, he didn’t file until 2018, but we’re confident Meek’s team would say they didn’t know about the police corruption scandal until this year.
Judge Brinkley says, in docs obtained by TMZ, the Philly article exposing the scandal is based on old police documents that were readily available to Meek’s attorneys. She’s basically saying … the information was there, why didn’t Meek’s team expose the corrupt cops? In fact, Brinkley says the article isn’t even admissible as evidence, and there’s precedent for that in Pennsylvania.
She claims that he already continuously admitted his guilt on gun and drug charges, and that his situation is not what would be called an “exceptional case for compelling reasons.” Brinkley also claims that just because other convicted criminals were let go due to the scandal, it doesn’t meet that he should too.
This is the latest roadblock for Meek Mill as he tried to get himself released from prison for violating probation. He was sentenced by Brinkley to 2-4 years.
