Last week, Governor Andrew Cuomo let New York City know, that it was clear to enter Phase 2 of reopening, Mayor Bill de Blasio declared, “Get on your mark, get set, cause here we go on Monday… We’ll be ready to take a big step forward for this city.”

Today, June 22nd, NYC will enter Phase 2, which means restaurants, bars, in-store retail are officially back. Of course, we must still practice safety measures and precautions. Dining and drinking will strictly be outdoors, and anything indoors  will have reduced capacity, social distancing, and mask compliance.

What does phase 2 for New York City actually entail?

  • Outdoor dining will be allowed
  • In-Store retail (this does not apply to malls, which will remain closed in Phase 2)
  • Salons and barbershops
  • Real estate services (this includes apartment showings, but only in unoccupied or vacant apartments)
  • Car dealerships
  • Commercial building management
  • Offices
  • Houses of worship/ church can reopen at 25% capacity
  • The subway remains open with overnight closures for cleaning.

Similar to New York, New Jersey has entered phase 2 of reopening as well. Today, New Jersey hair and nail salons, barbershops, massage and tattoo parlors and other personal care services reopened. As well as pools and outdoor, non-contact organized sports.

As of today, here’s whats reopened in New Jersey:

  • Outdoor dining
  • Nonessential retail stores
  • Child day care centers
  • Motor Vehicle Commission services
  • Houses of worship — Churches, mosques, synagogues
  • Outdoor special events, including fireworks
  • Libraries offering curbside pickup
