Dear 1996,
Hip Hop is getting recognized more than ever for its impact on the culture. Some could say it is a turning point in the culture. Yet the media is focused on this war between 2Pac and Notorious B.I.G. This could get ugly. I heard he’s going to show up to the Mike Tyson vs Bruce Seldon fight. I hope nothing happens in Las Vegas. Did you know there is this underground rapper under Biggie who is kind of tight? He goes by the name of Jay-Z. Pay attention. Don’t sleep on it! I think this will go down as being one of the best albums of all time.
You know, I hopped in my all red Dodge Neon earlier today, and three different stations were playing the “Macarena.” You can’t get away from that song! Somebody help me. I had to turn it to Hot 97 roll down the windows, and turn up Funkmaster Flex and DJ Red Alert. They kept promoting Summer Jam, and I have to be there! The Fugees have been killing it lately. The Score is my favorite album out right now. “Ready Or Not” is always on MTV Jams Countdown with Bill Billamy. You know the girls are going to come out for LL Cool J after Mr. Smith. Mary J. Blige, Total, Busta Rhymes. I can’t wait!
Have you been watching sports lately? Michael Jordan is back at the top of his game, those Chicago Bulls are going to unstoppable for a while. Damn, too bad Magic Johnson is retiring. I’m thinking about flying to Atlanta to watch the Dream Team play. In baseball, the Yankees look like they are finally going to win it all this year. It’s about time! Those damn Cowboys won the Super Bowl again. The Giants will get another one… one day.
I have to hit the mall and grab some brand new gear. I saw this fresh Fubu outfit that I was feeling. I need a new pair of Timbaland’s too.
Anyways, I wanted to just write myself a letter, in case I had to look back at in 20 years later.
For the record my favorite projects of the moment are as follows.
The Fugees – The Score
Nas – It Was Written
2Pac – All Eyez On Me
Busta Rhymes – The Coming
Outkast – ATLiens
