Nardo Wick is one of the hottest new artists in Jacksonville, Florida. In a little over a year, he exploded into the rap industry. On June 12, he’ll be hitting the legendary Hot 97 Summer Jam Festival Village Stage. Here are seven things you should know before the concert:
He’s most known for his 2021 breakout hit, “Who Want Smoke.” It became a popular Tik Tok challenge, seeing Billboard success. Lil Durk, 21 Savage, and G Herbo hopped on the official remix, which made the song even more enormous. It debuted at No. 17 on the Hot 100 chart, and it eventually earned him an RIAA certified platinum plaque which is an incredible accomplishment for a new artist.
During an interview last year with Billboard, Nardo spoke about how reaching the milestone made him feel. He said, “It felt good. Real good. It’s still surreal, a little bit.” The outlet also reported, Nardo said, “The energy of the song is just raw and natural; it’s perfectly put together.”
Nardo said he “always knew” the remix was going to happen.“I always knew I was gonna remix it. I just had to put it together the right way [with] the right people, and build those relationships. And then I got them on the song.”
Nardo was in the studio with Durk and Herb when they recorded their verses. Nardo said, “Sitting there and seeing them come up with it, it was raw. I knew they were going to do what they did on it.” He mentioned he wasn’t there when 21 Savage did his. However, they all linked up for the video shoot. Nardo said, “That s–t was raw … But like I told you, if I really sit down and think about it, it’s different. I’ll be like, “Damn, I really used to see these guys on the internet, [hear them] on the radio.” After securing those major features, he’s aiming for Drake next.
Nardo Wick is 20-years-old and has an unusual but catchy flow. His dad is a big support/influence in his life and career. As far as his skills, Nardo says rapping came naturally to him. “That’s been natural. I don’t know. That always came to me easily, like I always understood it. A lot of people don’t understand that it’s a difference from knowing how to rhyme, [and] really like, understanding it and making sense. I always understood it real young.”
After “Who Want Smoke,” he dropped another hit single with heavyweights, “Me or Sum” ft. Lil Baby and Future.”
Wick dropped his debut album, Who Is Nardo Wick? in December last year. He signed with Flawless Entertainment and RCA Records. RCA points out that Nardo’s first full-length project “landed in the top 20 (#19) on the Billboard 200 chart, making it the fifth-largest debut of 2021.”
