Pulitzer Prize winner, Kendrick Lamar (yes you read that right) will be our featured headliner at this year’s 25th Summer Jam. In 1943 Pulitzer expanded to music, but has since only been won by classical and jazz musicians. At the 60th Grammy Awards this past January, the Compton, Cali., rapper lost the “coveted” Album of the Year award to Bruno Mars.
Kung Fu Kenny’s first Summer Jam performance came in 2012 where Schoolboy Q joined him. He performed classics from Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City. “Feels good. You know you watch this on TV with your favorite artists for years- and now we’re finally doing our thing,” Lamar said with a big smile on his face after stepping off the stage. He has since returned to the Summer Jam stage in 2013 and 2015.
Although we are only three months into 2018, Lamar has continued his winning momentum from last year. In addition to the Pulitzer Prize, Lamar and the TDE family provided the soundtrack for the ‘Black Panther’ movie, which broke nearly every box office record. This past March, The DAMN. Tour came to an end bringing in over $62 million in revenue. Do yourself a favor and show some love to Kendrick and the lil’ homies on June 10th.
